In recent times, the company has announced that they are implementing a new ‘hub architecture that allows core functionality to execute locally, leading to smart home experiences that are more reliable, faster, and more secure.’ What this means in plain English is that the company is centralizing command instruction processing in your home hub, rather than passing commands to the cloud. This crew are definitely innovators in the smart home space. I’m talking about Nanoleaf, a company that is pioneering the production and sale of smart lighting panels. Don’t have any at the O’Driscoll household, but tempted at some stage to splash the cash and get a few of them. The company has always been a HomeKit fan and this was re-affirmed this week by their announcement to support thread border router functionality. Yep, it does sound complicated, but in practice, it means the company is prepping itself to support the upcoming Matter smart home standard. The Thread is at the core of Matter and the ability of Nanoleaf lighting products to act as routers in next-generation smart homes is a major plus.
