Pros and Cons of Google Home

Google Home, like most smart products of its kind, is giving homeowners a technological future just like they need it. When you have Google Home, you can ask it all sorts of questions, and it will answer you instantly.

Whether youโ€™re asking it to play your favorite song or the weather outside, it can do it all. However, as much as homeowners enjoy the many features on this device, it does have its own disadvantages.

The following are some of the pros and cons of Google Home;

Pros of Google Home

Here are some key benefits of the Google Home platform:

  • Affordable – For such a high-performing smart device, Google Home is very affordable. This device also comes in three types which gives homeowners the freedom to choose depending on their budget. So even though Google Home isnโ€™t as affordable as Amazon Echo, itโ€™s still more affordable than many other smart speakers.
  • Digital voice assistant – One thing that makes Google Home so appealing to most users is that it comes with Google Assistant. Like Siri and Alexa, Google Assistant is a digital voice assistant and the most conversational one you can get. This voice assistant is one of the few ones in the market that understands context. Not to mention that you can ask Google Assistant almost anything, and it will have an answer for it. Whether youโ€™re asking the weather outside or general questions, this device is always there to provide the answers. With Google Home, all the other household members can connect to it with their own personal accounts.
  • Great sound quality – For such a small cylindrical device, Google Home has such a great sound. The devices might not have all the bass that some homeowners are looking for, but its sound is clear as you need it to be.
  • Incorporates games – Another great thing about Google Home is that you can never get bored with it. This is because it incorporates more games than any other smart speaker out there. You can play any game you want, from trivia, dungeons and dragons, song quiz, to spoken RPG, among many others. Whatโ€™s even better is that you can choose the people you play against. You get to play with people from the household or strangers online. Even if youโ€™re busy with your chores, these games will entertain you at all times.
  • Customizable – Another great thing about Google Home is that you can customize it to match your dรฉcor. This is unlike most speakers whose design is fixed, meaning whether you like the color or not, there is no remedy. With Google Home, you can always customize it to your liking if you donโ€™t like the grey and white color.
  • Itโ€™s not subscription-based – Nowadays, almost every piece of technology comes with a subscription fee. This is rapidly becoming a big inconvenience for most homeowners. This is because most households end up paying hundreds or even thousands in monthly subscriptions alone. However, you wonโ€™t need to worry about that with Google Home because once you buy it, itโ€™s all yours. So there will never be any additional costs attached to it whatsoever.

Cons of Google Home

And here are some of the downsides of Google Home:

  • Itโ€™s non-rechargeable – One of the biggest setbacks that homeowners encounter after purchasing Google Home is that itโ€™s non-rechargeable. This means you have to plug it into a power source the entire time youโ€™ll need to use it. This can be very inconvenient, more so if you have limited charging spots in your home.
  • Limited compatibility – Unlike Amazon Echo, which is compatible with over 150,000 smart devices in the smart home industry, its compatibility has limits. This is because Google Home is only compatible with 50,000 smart devices out there. Unfortunately, this could prove inadequate among some homeowners who like to explore variety for their automation needs.
  • Not able to read or send emails and text messages – Most smart speakers and smart hubs fitted with Alexa or Siri can effortlessly perform these tasks. Even some of the cars out there have this feature, but Google Home doesnโ€™t.
  • It doesnโ€™t get voice commands from a distance – Another disadvantage of using Google Home is that its microphone cannot pick up voice commands from afar. This is unlike Amazon Echo, which is known to pick voice commands from far away distances. With Google Home, you have to get closer to say or ask whatever you need.

While Google Home isnโ€™t a perfect smart device, it can be useful when included in your smart home. Google Home is bound to better the control of all your smart devices, enhancing comfort and convenience at home.
